Respect for Your Brain

Do you ever get frustrated with your brain? Like because it doesn’t operate as other’s do? It’s thinking processes are different? It causes you to do “abnormal” things? Or it makes you look for your sunglasses…

which are on your head?

My mom has a saying, for herself. “I put it somewhere smart… that is why I can’t find it!” You know what, though, she also has another, “I think I put it here… which means I put it there!” When she looks there, she finds it, %98 of the time 🙂

So, I have been giving SP antibiotics since his dental, morning and night, and putting it back in the envelope it came in, and back in the bag, for a week, or so. Well, last night, after giving him the med, I went to put it back in the envelope, and I couldn’t find it. I looked, and still couldn’t locate the medicine, so I just left it to find this morning.

This morning, as I was preparing his food, I grabbed for the antibiotics. They weren’t there. Right.

So, the search began. I checked where I had cut out the vacuum packed tablet out. I searched in the doggy bag, and under the table. I even looked – like everywhere.

I couldn’t find it anywhere. O h, n o .

Without his antibiotics… well, I don’t know. I guess he couldn’t eat, or get anything till he had them.

Then I remembered. “After I cut this out, I am going to throw away the extra, so I don’t have garbage and extra packaging laying around.”

The garbage!

So I took a deep breath, and lifted layers of garbage, till I got to last night’s garbage.

Wallah! The antibiotics were sitting right there!

So, although it is weird that I threw out the medicine – I mean, really?!? – I knew that I did.

So, if your brain acts differently than you’d wish, but you can still decipher it’s clues, and know what it is thinking and can live well… Bravo! We all have things that we wish we didn’t do, or made us normal-er, but our brains work in a way we understand, and that is cool.

Q&A:

What is something that annoys you about your thinking processes?

What is your favorite misplaced item anecdote?

  1. This reminds me of a time when my mom misplaced a very special necklace and we practically tore apart the house looking for it. In the search and recovery process, we had cleaned and organized every room and lo and behold we found the necklace hanging on a doorknob in her bedroom! We were relieved to find it and we had a good laugh. I remember her saying that she should lose things more often!
